Roasted Garlic Ciabatta Bread Recipe

Thanks to my partnership with Red Star Yeast over the last few years, I have made huge strides in my bread baking. What once scared me to death, I now feel like I can almost do in my sleep. It’s incredible what practice can do. That being said, I still have a lot to learn and many more recipes to explore.

So when Red Star Yeast approached me about developing a ciabatta bread recipe, I jumped at the chance to stretch my comfort zone even farther.

Roasted

While researching ciabatta, I was surprised to learn that it was only invented in 1982— coincidentally the same year I was born. Bread has been around for centuries, but I like knowing that new stuff is still happening.

Recipe: Roasted Garlic Ciabatta

Ciabatta is characterized by it’s broad flat loaves, chewy texture, and holey interior. It’s definitely one of my favorites for sandwiches (and everything), although this is the first time I’ve baked it myself. And it was perfect.

I love how the roasted garlic practically melts into the dough of this variation. It’s subtle, but there for sure, and it’s scrumptious.

the night before you want to bake the bread. Letting it sit overnight helps develop the flavor and texture, definitely worth it. The next day the biga will be soupy with a bubbly surface.

>>The dough is very wet, almost like a batter, and cannot be kneaded by hand. A stand mixer is your best bet.

>>Because it is such a wet dough, it is kneaded on a higher speed than usual. Watch your mixer to make sure it doesn’t wobble off the counter!

>>As you work with the dough with your hands, be as gentle as possible. You want to keep all of those bubbles you can see under the surface intact.

You won’t just love the flavors of the bread and how easy it is to make but you’ll love that it’s the perfect side for just about anything. I love it with my Instant Pot Bean Soup or dunking it into Eggs in Purgatory. Actually I could eat it every day and never get tired of it!

There are so many ways you can tweak this ciabatta garlic bread recipe. Here’s a few suggestions but I’m sure you’ll think of many more.

Easy Homemade Garlic Bread Recipe

Be sure to use a serrated knife to cut through the ciabatta. This will make your life a whole lot easier! To cut, place one hand on the top of the loaf to keep it from moving then begin cutting the loaf lengthwise in a sawing motion. Continue cutting all the way through, periodically checking that both top and bottom are evenly sliced.

Before you begin, remove the butter from the fridge so that it will soften. To speed up the process, chop the butter into small pieces. Set it aside while you prepare the bread, garlic and parsley by which time the butter should have softened sufficiently.

It’s important to mince the garlic finely so that diners bite down on a big chunk of garlic. Firstly peel and chop the garlic as finely as possible. Then sprinkle with the salt and crush the garlic with the flat blade of the knife. Do this several times over and the salt will break down the garlic into a paste.

Wash the parsley well, especially if you are using curly leaf parsley, grit can get caught in the leaves. Shake the parsley dry then pat with paper towels before chopping finely.

All ovens vary so you may need to adjust the baking time. Check regularly during the baking. If it still hasn’t toasted to your liking after 15 minutes, use the broiler/grill element to achieve this. Leaving the garlic ciabatta bread in the oven too long will dry the bread out.

Homemade

Ciabatta makes excellent garlic bread because it is full of holes where the garlicky butter can pool! Plus it’s the ideal contrast of crispy crust and soft, pillowy interior.

Absolutely! Prepare up until baking then pop the baking sheet into the freezer until the butter is solid. Replace the top half of bread onto the bottom half with a sheet of parchment paper between and wrap the prepared garlic bread tightly in several layers of plastic wrap. Freeze for up to 3 months.

To bake, thaw overnight in the fridge. Then unwrap and completely remove all plastic wrap and parchment paper and bake according to the recipe. You may need a few extra minutes if the bread is still very cold.

How To Make Perfect Garlic Bread (no Fail Recipe)

Almost every dish benefits from a side of ciabatta garlic bread. I always serve it with my Crockpot Minestrone Soup and my family adore it with pasta dishes like Tortellini alla Panna. In fact, it’s the perfect side with all Italian antipasto.

Ciabatta garlic bread also is perfect served at any buffet table and you’ll notice that everyone takes at least one slice and goes back for more. It’s the savory garlic goodness that no one can resist!

It’s soft and buttery in the middle, irresistibly garlicky, and we all love it. Amongst a family of picky kids, the garlic bread was always a winner.

This garlic bread recipe brings back warm memories, although it’s quite a bit different. This bread is crisp and crusty with deep roasted garlic flavor. Since roasted garlic is inherently buttery in flavor and texture, I was able to cut the amount of butter in half.

Roasted Garlic Caprese Flatbread

I’ve had this recipe in my back pocket since sharing my tutorial on how to roast garlic. I second-guessed publishing it, since this recipe takes longer to make than your average garlic bread. On the other hand, it’s a simple, comforting side dish that goes well with many homemade meals.

If you’re making some saucy pasta tonight, how about a side of garlic bread? I’m working hard on a pantry resource guide for you and will be back soon.

The length of time required to roast garlic varies from 40 to 70 minutes, depending on the garlic’s age, quantity used, etc. You can roast the garlic in advance and refrigerate it for later (see recipe notes), or give yourself plenty of time to make this bread.

We’ll need half as much butter as usual, so four tablespoons. The recipe calls for unsalted butter plus some salt—if you’re using salted butter, omit the salt.

Toasted

I’ve made this garlic bread with Whole Foods’ ciabatta as well as Ibis bakery bread (local to Kansas City). Both were good,
