Real Banana Bread

Protein is a SERIOUSLY important macro nutrient that many of us are deficient in. Protein helps our joints, build our muscles and helps keep us feeling full and satisfied, among a whole bunch of other things! To make this a banana bread we’re using 2 ingredients:

Protein powder – this is pretty self-explanatory. Instead of some of the flour, we’re using protein powder to give this easy healthy banana bread recipe a little protein pump up!

Almond flour – instead of making this a whole wheat banana bread, we’re using a nut-based almond flour because almonds are naturally higher in protein. They also had a nutty taste and make this bread naturally gluten free!

Getting enough protein is something I’m passionate about, which is why I wrote the post how to increase protein intake, how to use protein powder 3 ways AND Mr. FFF and I did a protein bar review. But, I figured you might want an even easier way to get protein which is why this protein powder banana bread is HERE FOR YOU.

When I tested this recipe, I used whey-based protein powder as I do not have a dairy allergy and this is my preferred protein. Make sure to use grass-fed dairy whey protein powder if you want to make this banana bread paleo friendly!

I am sure you could also use a plant-based protein powder IF you are accustomed to the earthy taste of it. I personally am not, so it’s not something I would recommend. But, if you are, give it a shot and let me know how it goes!

Super Easy Kitchenaid Banana Bread Recipe

This is one of the best healthy banana bread recipes I’ve made (what can I say, I like protein) but I’m thinking you could add some mix ins to make it even yummier!

Add some nuts – if you want a little crunch, this high protein banana bread would be great with diced almonds mixed in or on top!

Drizzle with nut butter – mix yourself up some homemade almond butter and slather a THICK layer on top of a fresh slice of banana bread. You’re welcome.

Chocolate chips – want to be a little extra? I’m all about a hefty handful of dairy free chocolate chips swirled into your banana bread. I don’t think you’ll regret it!

I was just about to promise you that this will be the last banana bread for awhile but then I looked at my counter and saw some spotty bananas…

Easy Chocolate Protein Banana Bread

First, peel and mash the ripe bananas on a chopping board using a potato masher or a fork. When the bananas are turned into a smooth puree, place them in measuring cups to measure the amount of 1 cup+ 1/4 cup. This is about 3 large bananas.

Now stir in the dry ingredients: oat flour, protein powder, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon. The batter should be thick and fluffy.

The protein banana bread is ready when the top is set, golden-brown and a pick inserted in the center comes out with only some sticky batter on it.

Remove the bread from the oven and pull it out from the loaf pan using the pieces of hanging parchment paper on the side.

Most protein powder banana bread loaves are quite packed. They won’t rise as much as regular banana bread. So expect a flatter bread with denser crumbs than usual.

However, we didn’t try the recipe with whey protein powder. Whey protein powder is not a vegan protein, so we don’t use it in our recipes.

If you do, keep in mind that it’s a highly liquid absorbent powder, and the bread texture will be very dense if used.

Of course, hemp protein powder works as well, but we found the flavor of hemp a bit overpowering in this high-protein banana bread recipe.

Like all vegan banana bread recipes, they store very well for a few days at room temperature if packed in a sealed box.

The last option is to freeze banana bread, whole or by slices, in ziplock bags and thaw the day before at room temperature.

Below I listed some swaps for the common ingredients used in this recipe. Pick only one swap at a time to avoid impacting the texture of the bread too much.

Salted Caramel Protein Banana Bread

Adding protein powder to desserts and baked goods is one of my favorite things to do. As someone who follows a muscle-building diet, knowing that my treats are aiding my muscle growth keeps me motivated towards my goals.

Some of my favorite treats to add protein to include cookies, muffins, and donuts. To change things up, I wanted to throw banana bread into the mix!

Adding protein powder to any old recipe is not recommended. Protein powder transforms the structure of banana bread, so we need special ingredients to compensate. Luckily, we’ve created the best of both worlds, which is why this protein banana bread recipe is such a winner!

What I love about this recipe is that it’s healthy enough to eat for breakfast, a wholesome snack between meals! Heck, I love to add a scoop of protein ice cream on top and enjoy it as a protein-packed dessert!

Start by adding the mashed bananas, milk, and vanilla extract into a large mixing bowl and whisking together until combined. Next, add the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter remains. If using chocolate chips, fold them through at the end.

Now, transfer the batter into a greased loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a skewer comes out mostly clean from the middle. Let the protein banana bread cool in the pan completely, before slicing and serving.

Most protein powders will yield a moist and fluffy banana bread. However, avoid using whey protein powder as it is known to dry out baked goods. Here are the best kinds of powder to make this recipe-

Healthy

While a classic loaf of banana bread has some protein in it, it is not enough to be classified as a high protein food.

Protein banana bread has at least 18 grams of protein per slice. Add some walnuts or almonds on top and add even more protein to it.
