Banana Bread Recipe Chocolate Swirl

CHRISTMAS MORNING PERFECTION – Chocolate Swirl Banana Bread takes top honors thanks to its cake-like texture, sweet banana flavor and rich chocolate taste.

Banana bread may just be one of my all time favorite recipes. I love it for breakfast with a glass of milk, as a snack with a smear of peanut butter or for dessert with a dollop of Greek yogurt or ice cream! In fact, in an effort to quench my persistent hankering for all things banana bread, I’ve created quite a few recipes over the years. Here are 3 favorites that made it to the blog:

Marbled

Do you have a traditional recipe that your family eats every Christmas morning? Growing up we ate cinnamon rolls (usually Sister Shuberts) most every year and now that the girls are little, I find myself going back to that same tradition. However, this year, I am hoping to spice it up a bit (while selfishly satisfying my chocolate tooth) with a loaf of this marbled banana bread

Whether you bake a loaf for your family to enjoy Christmas morning or have a loaf on-hand to snack on throughout the day, this is the recipe you want to be serving. Oh, and fun thought…if you’re making a charcuterie board, add a few slices of banana bread to it!

Chocolate swirled banana bread recipe takes top honors thanks to its cake-like texture, sweet banana flavor and rich chocolate taste. Swirled with decadent chocolate ribbons, this impressive quick bread makes a beautiful holiday food gift for friends, teachers, family and neighbors.

When gifting, I like to wrap the bread loaf with a festive tea towel and tie with a ribbon. (Side note…) Be sure that you let the bread cool completely before wrapping in plastic wrap, foil and/or the towel.

When you take a look at the ingredient list, you may notice a few traditional ingredients missing like butter, eggs and granulated sugar. Don’t worry – you wont miss them! In fact, this is one of the most tender and moist banana bread recipes I’ve ever made.

To make vegan banana bread, make these two simple swaps. First, use water (or a milk substitute) in place of the milk and maple syrup in place of honey.

I also swapped out butter with a neutral tasting oil such as canola or vegetable. However, I’ve used olive oil in a pinch (you can slightly taste the flavor) as well as coconut oil.

Be sure to avoid over swirling so that the chocolate ribbons don’t looked muddled. Use a knife or the back of a spoon and swirl for just a second – maybe four or five times from one side of the pan to the other.

Tender and sweet with a gorgeous ribbon of melted chocolate running through it,   marbled banana bread is as impressive looking as it is delicious. Plus, it’s fun to make: you spoon the banana and chocolate batters into a loaf pan alternately, then artistically swirl the two together with a knife.

Microwave in short intervals, stirring in between so the chocolate doesn’t scorch, until the chocolate is almost melted. Stir, letting the residual heat melt the chocolate completely, then stir in the cocoa powder.

Then swirl with a knife. Don’t over-swirl or the colors will get muddled — four or five times up and back should do it.

We always grew up with this treat. Our mom usually spread some butter on a slice and packed it in our school lunch. Heaven on earth baby.

Then we went to Sydney, Australia a couple of times to visit my cousin, Lucy, and in Oz they serve toasted banana bread with butter everywhere! Basically banana bread is awesome, and everyone loves it. And it's easy to make.

While I do love chocolate and bananas I was missing a chocolate swirled banana bread in my recipe box so I made one. While you could use cocoa powder I sure love using pure melted chocolate. Partially because I get to lick the bowl but mostly because the flavor cannot be beat!

Marbled Banana Bread With Peanut Butter Swirl

Like all of my other recipes you need two important things. Overripe bananas and Greek yogurt or sour cream. These two create a beautifully tender and moist banana bread.

Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet, mixing to just combine. You don't want to over mix the dry ingredients as it will activate the gluten in the flour more creating a tougher texture.

Then scoop one-third of the chocolate banana bread batter into three spoonfuls on top of the plain batter. Use a butter knife to swirl the chocolate. Repeat two more times with remaining batter.

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before slicing. Store in an air-tight container, on the counter or in the fridge if you are in a warm climate.

While this banana bread is delicious on its own I always love toasting a slice and adding a bit of buttah, Lurpak or Kerry Gold are my favorites- you can get both at Whole Foods. With this Marbled Chocolate Banana Bread, you get to enjoy a great banana bread recipe with chocolate swirled in. ) has always been one of my favorite banana bread recipes. Although it seems indulgent with the addition of chocolate, there really is a very small amount of chocolate swirled in. But the addition is a nice treat.

Melted chocolate chips are mixed in with a little bit of the banana bread batter to create the chocolate batter. Then the chocolate batter and banana batter are spooned into the loaf pan randomly, and a knife run through the batters swirls them together. This recipe makes one loaf. I often double the recipe to make two loaves since my family eats it up so quickly!

If your bananas are soft and palebrownor darker inside too, then they’re overripe and no longer good for eating on their own.As bananasripen, the starch in the flesh is converted into sugar. At this point, your overripe bananas are perfect for baking, banana bread, or smoothies. Once bananas turn black, they should be tossed in the garbage.

If you plan to eat your banana bread within a couple of days of making it, then it’s perfectly okay to keep it on the counter at room temperature. If you want your banana bread to last longer than a couple of days,
