Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe From Scratch Without Yeast

These seriously addictive cheese and garlic breadsticks are BETTER than any pizzeria appetizer. Using 2 ingredient weight watchers pizza dough, it requires no yeast and no fancy mixers to make. Gluten-free, and easily made vegan and dairy-free.

If you’ve ever been to pizza hut, Domino’s, or any American style pizza chain, you will have come across breadsticks, but these are BETTER!

They are cheesy, garlic-y, and pulls apart beautifully. The crust is thick, chewy, and fluffy and it is LOADED with cheesy garlic flavor.

Garlic Pizza Bread (no Yeast!)

Start by making your 2 ingredient magic dough. Once you’ve made that, you want to form a rectangular shape. Don’t worry if it isn’t uniform and completely well-shaped. When that is done, move it to a baking tray.

Then, you’ll lightly brush it all with either butter or olive oil. Once brushed, add the mixture of garlic, herbs and butter/oil, and brush all over the top of it. Lightly sprinkle with cheese and bake it!

Once you remove it from the oven, sprinkle with extra herbs (it really brings out the flavor!) and then use a pizza cutter, slice down the middle, and in bite-sized pieces down the side.

You can absolutely use a store-bought pizza dough if you don’t want to make my homemade version. The pizza dough MUST be fresh though and you must still roll it out.

Please only use dried garlic as a last resort. Through personal experience, to achieve the fantastic garlic flavor, fresh really is best.

To toast them, add 2-3 tablespoons onto a non-stick pan and heat up on medium heat. When the pan becomes hot, lightly mix around the dried garlic for a minute or two, until it starts to pop. Remove from the heat and use it as required.

Be sure to use vegan butter and vegan and dairy-free cheese. I recommend using torn up slices of vegan cheese, as opposed to shredded vegan cheese. Torn up vegan cheese melts much more beautifully, and holds its shape.

The amount used is already quite strong, similar to any garlic bread out there. For a stronger garlic flavor, add an extra tablespoon or more of minced garlic.

Please note: If you add more than 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, you need to add more oil or butter to compensate.

I’m a two time cookbook author, photographer, and writer, and passionate about creating easy and healthier recipes. I believe you don’t need to be experienced in the kitchen to make good food using simple ingredients that most importantly, taste delicious.A no yeast bread that is super quick to prepare! With swirls of herbs and ribbons of melted cheese, this is a wonderful afternoon tea served with lashings of butter, or for dipping into soups.

I like to wedge chunks of cheese in the batter so you get lovely pockets of cheese and the lovely textured crust on top.But you could just mix it through – even faster to prepare!!

I’ve actually got reasonable upper body strength. My challenge is my height. Sigh. OK, there you have it. I haven’t admitted this on my blog before but not only do I have abnormally small Baby-Hands, I am also vertically challenged.

For those of you also in the same boat, you will understand when I say that kneading is much harder for short peoplebecause the work surface is higher and you don’t get the benefit of being able to push down with your body weight.

So. I love no yeast breads that don’t call for kneading – quick breads like this recipe, and these No Knead Dinner Rolls.

The ingredients of this no yeast bread are similar to a muffin but I altered the recipe to make it lesscrumbly, making it suitable to slice and even to toast. It is light, fluffy and super moist.

Ilike to add the herbs and slices of cheese inafter pouring the batter into the bread tin so that you get “swirls” of herband pockets of cheese in the bread, rather than almost invisiblebits of herb and grated cheese all throughout which you can’t really see. But this step is optional. The easier and faster way to make this is to mix grated cheese and herb into the batter, then just pour it all into the tin.

Easy Cheese Bread

This bread lasts quite well – really fresh for 3 days in a very airtight container, up to 4 is ok. Beyond 4 I would toast it and store it in the fridge.

Serve this as a side for meals, or for afternoon tea served with lashings of butter. It’s also fantastic for dipping into soupsand slow cooked stews!

2. You can substitute with pre sliced cheese but I found it did not work as well because they are slightly thinner so they sort of disappear when baked. Cutting it yourself means you can cut them slightly thicker so you will end up with some ribbons of melted cheese in the bread.

You can also substitute with grated cheese. If you do this, mix it straight into the batter just before pouring it in the tin.

Tasty cheese is a common type of cheese here in Australia. A great all rounder and very good value. You can use any type of melting cheese with flavour / salt that you wish. Colby, Monterey Jack, cheddar, gruyere are all great! I don't recommend Mozzarella - it does not have enough salt or flavour for this particular recipe.

3. You can substitute this with 1 cup + 3 tbsp milk at room temperature + 1 tbsp vinegar. Set aside for 10 minutes until the surface of the milk curdles. Then use the milk, including the curdled bits, as the buttermilk in this recipe.
