It’s possible to bake just about anything in the toaster oven. I have baked cakes, cookies, banana bread and more. The toaster oven is an excellent option for baking garlic bread. Using a large conventional oven is not necessary for one or even two loaves of garlic bread.

The only requirement is that you have a toaster oven that has temperature controls. There are many available these days and they are not terribly expensive. My favorite is the Breville Mini Toaster Oven. It’s great quality and doesn’t break the bank.
On super hot summer days when turning on my giant oven would cause too much heat, the toaster oven is the perfect alternative. It heats up to temperature way faster and since it’s smaller, it doesn’t generate as much heat in the kitchen. Maybe you live in a small space and only have a toaster oven? Maybe you’re in a dorm room? You’re in luck!
The biggest difference between baking in a conventional oven and a toaster oven is that the heat in a toaster oven is a little more intense. The pan or whatever you’re baking is much closer to the heating elements so things bake faster and brown more. For most recipes, I’ll reduce the baking temperature by 5 to 25°F.
Quick Garlic Toast Recipe: How To Make It
Personally I’m a fan of garlic bread that is super buttery and soft in the middle but crispy on the edges. I know that many people like their garlic bread more on the soft side. I’ll give you the cooking method for each one of these options.
For crispy garlic bread, the baguette should cook directly on the oven rack. This will allow the heat to completely access every edge of the bread.
If you like your garlic bread more soft, wrap the buttered baguette in tin foil and bake for 7 minutes directly on the oven rack-no pan is needed. Flip it once halfway through baking.
Cheesy Texas Toast Garlic Bread Recipe {family Favorite}
Cheesy garlic bread is an easy twist. The cheese gives a wonderful tangy flavor that is incredibly delicious with garlic and butter. If making crispy garlic bread, sprinkle finely grated romano or parmesan on for the last 4 minutes of cook time. If making soft garlic bread, sprinkle a pinch of cheese between each slice of bread before baking.
There are a couple of good options for gluten-free baguettes. By far the best gluten-free baguettes come from Against the Grain Gourmet. They are like no other gluten-free bread product you will try. Part of their secret is that they use mozzarella cheese in the bread which gives it this amazing chewy texture. Udi’s gluten-free baguettes are also a good option. Both of these brands are usually found in the frozen section with other gluten-free breads.
Schar has recently improved their baguette and I am pleased with the results. It is not like a traditional chewy baguette but the flavor and texture are good. This brand especially, is excellent for soft garlic bread. Schar baguettes are usually found in the gluten-free bread section, not the freezer section.

Once all chunks are small, turn your knife horizontally with the sharp edge facing away from you. Use the edge to press down on the clove of garlic and then pull towards you. This will mash it into the cutting board. You’ll need to do this several times over all of the garlic until it has a paste texture.
Step 3 – Butter the bread. Spread the garlic butter evenly over six slices of bread. About 2 tablespoons of garlic butter per side of the bread. Make sure to get the butter to the edges!

Step 4 – Bake the toast. Place the buttered bread on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees F. After the 10 minutes are up, flip the bread and bake for about 5 more minutes.
Ciabatta Garlic Bread » The Practical Kitchen
According to legend, a restaurant in Texas called the Pig Stand started the Texas toast trend as we know it. In the 1940s, the managers at the Pig Stand ordered thicker slices of bread from a local bakery.
Fortunately for all of us, the slices did not fit into a toaster so they had to grill the bread to toast it. And the rest is history. The buttered, grilled toast became an instant hit and created the first Texas toast.
Texas toast is like French toast: the key is thick bread. Texas toast should be about twice as thick as a regular slice of bread, so about ¾ -1 inch thick is ideal.
Garlic Cheese Toast {ready In 15 Minutes!}
We often can’t find it in an uncut loaf in our area, so we have found that Sara Lee Artesano bread is the perfect thickness. You should be able to find this loaf or something similar in the bread aisle.
If you can’t find Sara Lee Artesano, you could use a loaf of Italian or French bread and cut it to the correct thickness. The crust is a little thicker, but it’s still delicious. When using French bread, avoid the skinny baguettes, they tend to be too tough.
Our recipe takes about 15 minutes of baking time at 375 degrees F. About ten minutes into the cook time, you need to flip them over to brown the other side too.
