Naan sounds like a complicated recipe but this gluten free naan recipe is pretty fool-proof. If you’ve made fathead dough before (you have, right?) you’ll know how easy it is.

This keto naan with almond flour recipe is made with a twist on my fathead pizza dough recipe. I love using fathead dough for low carb bread replacements because it has a chewy texture, which makes it taste so similar to the higher carb versions.

First we knead together the fathead dough recipe. Once it comes together, form it into a ball and then we’ll separate into six sections – use a knife to cut like a pie.

Keto Naan Recipe

PRO TIP: Keto naan bread is supposed to have a rustic shape, so it doesn’t need to be perfectly round, or perfectly shaped. I thought it was easier to just shape with my hands than use a rolling pin, but if you do want to roll it out, make sure to use parchment paper on both sides of the naan so that it doesn’t stick to the rolling pin.

Once it’s done baking and has beautiful golden spots all over, it’s time for the best part! This keto flatbread is topped with an irresistible combination of garlic, butter, and parsley. Don’t even think about skipping this part!

Keto naan bread is a low carb flatbread. Traditional naan is an oven-baked flatbread that is found in various Indian and Asian cuisines, but it’s made with flour and definitely isn’t low carb or keto.

Easy Naan Bread Recipe

I came up with this almond flour flatbread version that’s packed with protein and fiber. Naan often has yogurt in it, so I used keto friendly full-fat Greek yogurt in this one.

One piece of keto naan has just 6 grams net carbs. Awesome, right? Traditional naan bread has more than 40 grams net carbs.

All the flavor, none of the carbs – that’s what I do here on Wholesome Yum and I’m so glad we can add keto naan with almond flour to our low carb bread list.

Curry and stews are a natural choice for gluten free naan bread (see above!), but it would also make a perfect side for salads and soups. It’s substantial for bread, so you could always just add a little cheese or pesto and call it a meal. And scooping up crack chicken with naan? Droooooool.

Easy Garlic Keto Naan Bread Recipe (almond Flour)

If you love Indian food like I love Indian food, then scarfing down Naan is probably something you’re pretty familiar with. This chewy flatbread is definitely a crave-worthy part of any meal, but especially alongside a delicious dish of curry.

My Indian-inspired Naan recipe is also great because it’s very easy to make at home! You only need a few ingredients to make the naan dough, and the process of shaping the naan and cooking them is fun and simple to do.

It’s a great recipe to make with children, by the way! Kids love to work with bread dough, and this one is especially great because it’s cooked on the stovetop instead of in the oven. That way, they can see it cooking up right before their eyes.

Homemade Naan Bread

At heart, Naan is a simple flatbread, similar to pita bread or even tortillas. It’s part of traditional Indian cuisine, and is usually made in a clay oven called a tandoor. The dough is kneaded, then shaped, and finally slapped onto the sides of the hot tandoor. They bake up crunchy on the bottom and bubbly on top. They are lightly browned, even charred, and utterly delicious!

Pita bread is usually a very basic recipe using just flour, water, yeast, oil, and salt. But, Naan bread is enriched with yogurt, and sometimes butter and eggs. The result is flavorful and chewy, perfect for eating plain or with a savory entree.

So is naan healthy? Like most baked goods, it can be… or it can be kind of iffy, made with low-quality ingredients and lots of preservatives. AND, high carbs. ?

Gluten Free Naan (vegan Flatbread)

This version, however, is definitely on the healthier side, thanks to the simple ingredients: sour cream and flour. That’s right! There’s no hydrogenated oil, sugar, or other questionable stuff in here. Just a simple and healthy side dish that everyone will want seconds of!

This is one you won’t be able to forget! As I mentioned before, there are only two basic ingredients here. If you keep sour cream on hand, like I do, you can make it anytime!

Easy

Here’s where it gets fun. I let the stand mixer do all of the work, and then cut, shape, and cook my naan in a pan on top of the stove. That way, I can get a nice crunchy-chewy exterior, even without a tandoor.

I skipped the yeast and used baking powder to leaven it. Since naan is a flatbread, you can get away with it.

My favorite way to prepare this naan is in batches. Cook one ball of naan dough on the skillet while you roll the next.
