Easy Bread Recipe Almond Flour

We loved this recipe for Savory Almond Flour Bread, with hemp seeds and flaxseed meal adding extra flavor and nutrients. And this bread recipe is extra low in carbs and gluten-free, and it’s a variation of almond flour bread that you’ll make over and over!

Savory Almond Flour Bread started out the way many of my Kalyn’s Kitchen favorite recipes do with an idea from a reader! In February a reader named Karen left a comment on my recipe for Flourless Savory Breakfast Muffins saying she enjoyed making the recipe as a loaf of bread. She gave me her cooking temperature and told me to be sure to spray the loaf pan well, and I couldn’t wait to try it.

But of course regular readers will know that I’d experiment with the recipe just a bit, and when I tried making this almond flour bread with Kara we made it a couple of times, tweaking it each time until we thought the flavor was amazing. We divided up the leftovers of our final version, and I ate my share for breakfast for a few days in a row, toasting the bread and spreading some butter on.

There are many brands of hemp seeds, and all add a nutty flavor and add a nice texture to baked goods. But I am partial to a brand called Hemp Hearts (affiliate link) which is what I used for this recipe.

I used a 9 inch x 5 inch loaf pan (affiliate link) for this recipe, but I think a slightly smaller size would work.

Almond flour bread recipes can be tricky. The almond flour adds a subtle sweetness as well as extra moisture and richness. This can be great for soft things like rolls, but for things like bread where you want a good crust and more chewy texture, you need to add a few things.

If you do want to use yeast in a recipe with almond flour, you will normally need to use more than the regular amount and give it extra time to rise.

This almond flour bread recipe doesn't use yeast. Instead we went the easier route with some buttermilk (can be made dairy free) and baking soda together, as well as baking powder. Each one gives a rise and helps this bread taste chewy and fluffy instead of brick-like.

Almond flour actually extends the shelf life of most baked goods. The fat in it retains moisture and keeps the bread from going stale a bit longer.

This bread should be kept in an air tight bag on the counter for about a week (after a week just keep an eye on it).

Almond Flour Keto Pumpkin Bread (easy!)

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know how much I love homemade bread. In fact, over the last few years I’ve been experimenting with plenty of recipes and I’ve made so many different types of bread.

Mostly, I’ve made plenty of yeast bread – from this fluffy gluten-free white bread (that’s become a huge hit at home), to soft buckwheat bread, to soft gluten-free dinner rolls, to this gorgeous rosemary focaccia bread, and even this delicious gluten-free pizza crust.

While baking bread and watching the yeast work its magic as the dough miraculously doubles in size is usually very therapeutic for me, there are days when I’ve either:

On those days, I turn to baking a loaf of quick bread (which doesn’t include yeast and instead uses baking powder for leavening). A few favorite quick bread recipes on the blog include our easy honey oat bread, and this absolute best gluten-free banana bread.

Especially if you’re diabetic or insulin-resistant (and can’t risk your blood sugar spiking after just a few slices of bread), or simply prefer not to have to breathe in and hold your breath just to be able to pull on your favorite pair of high-waisted jeans.

You can simply replace the almond flour by making your own finely ground almonds (almond meal) at home! All you need is whole almonds, 5 minutes, a high-speed blender or food processor, and a fine-mesh sieve.

Add the dry ingredients (unsweetened shredded coconut, almond flour, salt and baking powder) to the bowl with the wet ingredients, whisking well until you get a liquid batter.

Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan, and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Allow the almond flour bread to cool for at least 10 to 15 minutes in the pan, before running a butter knife or a spatula around the edges and removing the loaf from the pan. Finally, allow the gluten-free almond bread to finish cooling to room temperature on a wire rack.
