Of course, a classic, easy spaghetti and meatballs dinner needs garlic bread for dipping so I went on a quest that involved several loaves of bread, chopped garlic, real butter and herbs. It also involved a few stomach aches (hey I’m I’m human and sometimes you can’t stop at one slice)!

But alas, we landed on a delightful, mouth-watering garlic bread recipe that’s 1000x better than the store-bought kind and that I can’t stop making.
This homemade garlic bread recipe requires super simple ingredients, so trust me when I say you’ll back to it time and time again. Here’s what you’ll need to make it:
If you like cheesy garlic bread, feel free to add 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese or 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella! You’ll sprinkle it on in the last 2 minutes of baking (so that it doesn’t get too crispy on top).

If you like crispier garlic bread, bake it for 3-5 minutes more (but watch it carefully so that it doesn’t get too toasted). If you like it softer, take it out closer to 10 minutes. You can also wrap the bread in aluminum foil before baking it if you like softer garlic bread.
Store any leftovers covered at room temp for 1-2 days. Simply reheat it in your oven by wrapping it in foil and warming it for 10 minutes at 350 degrees F.
That’s right, this homemade garlic bread is freezer-friendly! It’s such a great way to have a delicious side on hand at any time. Here’s how to freeze it:

Garlic bread is a favorite for everyone and I’ve bought the foil wrapped loaves at the grocery forever. Now I make my own and it tastes so much better (plus I make sure the garlic butter goes all the way to the edges)! Nearly every supermarket or corner store sells baguettes or loaves of fresh bread and they’re inexpensive.Making your own thick sliced homemade garlic bread is a snap and it makes the whole kitchen smell oh-so-good!

Toss on a little bit of parmesan (or cheddar) to create a cheesy garlic bread that goes with everything from Fresh Tomato Soup to a side for sopping up sauce in the bottom of your spaghetti bowl!
Craving garlic bread and don’t have a baguette handy? Making it with regular bread (or even leftover hot dog or hamburger buns) will do in a pinch, especially if you use a homemade garlic bread spread recipe!
The best kind of bread will be a thick baguette that can hold the spread or a delicious French bread. In the end you will want it to be hot and chewy throughout and a little toasty on the edges.

Feel free to sprinkle some parmesan cheese on both sides. This is optional, but adds a little crispy, cheesy goodness to it! Then bake both halves until toasty!

Kind of like a Baked Potato, I most often cook garlic bread without wrapping in foil as I prefer it to be toasted and lightly browned. If you prefer a softer bread, after spreading the butter, place the two halves back together and wrap the bread in foil. Bake about 15 minutes or until heated through.
Yes, most definitely!! This delicious homemade garlic bread can be frozen successfully! Simply make it, wrap in foil and then wrap with plastic wrap. Let it thaw naturally or remove the plastic wrap and bake it in a 300°F oven until it warm and the butter is melted!

To cook and bake, there are many nights (more than I’d care to admit), when the LAST thing I want to do is spend an hour in the kitchen chopping, slicing, dicing, sautĂ©ing, etc.

You know — those nights when your to-do list is a mile long, your kitchen sink is overflowing with dirty dishes, and your nine-year-old is sobbing over his math homework… Have you been there?

Real life is rarely Pinterest-perfect. If it was, I’d have a stash of homemade freezer meals ready and waiting to pop in the oven. But after 12 straight weekends of soccer and football, my meal prep game is at an all-time low. Whomp, whomp, whomp…
I *could* just press the easy button and order some pizzas. OR I can throw a big pot of water on to boil to make one of these simple pasta recipes! And while I’m waiting for the water to boil, I can pop a loaf of this homemade garlic bread in the oven and toss a simple side salad.
End result? A meal that I know my family is going to adore that’s 1) waayyy less expensive than pizza (pizza for 7 ain’t cheap these days!!) and 2) honestly on the table faster than any pizza delivery has ever made it to our house. Works for me!
The Ultimate Garlic Bread Recipe
Simple (just 5 ingredients, including the bread!) and, more importantly, uber flexible. At its most basic, you just slather some French bread with a delicious garlic butter spread and bake… Three minutes of prep and 12 minutes of baking/broiling later, it’s ready to serve!
First things first — you need to choose a loaf of bread. You didn’t think we were making this garlic bread from scratch, did you? I mean, I’m all for scratch cooking when I have the time and inclination, but this quick garlic bread is all about weeknight easy.
As far as the best bread for garlic bread goes, any store-bought French or Italian bread from the bakery section will do.

Recipe For Homemade Garlic Bread
But my secret weapon for making the VERY BEST garlic bread is to use a “take and bake” loaf, which is basically just a loaf that’s only been partially baked and needs finished off in the oven. My absolute favorite for quality, flavor, and price are the take-and-bake Italian bread loaves from ALDI.
Softened butter — use real butter, please! I typically use salted, but you can use unsalted, as well. Or I’ve also used a butter and olive oil spread in a pinch when I didn’t want to wait for a stick to soften up.
Minced garlic — I know a lot of people harp on using fresh garlic cloves when cooking, and it’s definitely the way to go if you want that strong garlic flavor. But I’ve made this homemade garlic bread recipe many times with the minced refrigerated stuff in jar, and it’s absolutely just as good.
How To Make Perfect Garlic Bread (no Fail Recipe)
Italian seasoning — my go-to is this Italian seasoning variety because it’s a blend of coarsely ground spices, not the super fine grind that some other brands offer. If you’re using a more finely ground seasoning, consider reducing the amount you use because it will definitely be more pungent.
Grated Parmesan cheese — if you want to change things up, a grated Parmesan romano works great here, too. You’ll need about 1/4 cup, plus I always like to sprinkle a little extra over the top before baking.
