Tuscan Herb Bread is one of my favorite savory herb bread recipes full of flavor and easy to make. Flavored with parmesan reggiano cheese, fresh basil, thyme, rosemary, and oregano. Two shareable loaves perfect for dipping into olive oil and pairing with your favorite dishes.
Every time I eat this bread I am transported back to Tuscany. The farms, cobble stone streets, the beautiful language, and oh the amazing food! Window baskets overhanging with herbs or flowers, street markets filled with baked goods and fresh vegetables.

I want you to enjoy the same Tuscan flavors I love so much through a slice of warm bread dipped in olive oil. You don’t have to go to a bakery or a an Italian restaurant to find some. Just make it yourself. This recipe is a great introduction to first time bread bakers. The result is a perfectly balanced loaf to accompany your pasta, salad, or meat dishes.
Tuscan Style Bread With Herbs Recipe
Baking bread requires time and a little patience. This loaf is gets its tangy flavor by incorporating a slow cold proof with a warm proof period. Proofing or Proving your dough is a technique where dough is allowed to ferment, creating carbon dioxide that makes the dough rise. During this time the yeast is reacting with the starch from the flour. In this case we are allowing time for several proofs before baking.
The first proof is for the active dry yeast. When you add warm water to the yeast and sugar, it reacts and creates a frothy film. This means the yeast is alive and ready to work with the starch. Careful not to add hot water it will kill the yeast.
The second and third proves are for the dough itself. Once the dough has been made, kneaded and placed in an air tight container, it is left to rise. I place my dough in a draft free warm location where the temperature will aid in helping the dough to double in size.
Dutch Oven Herb Bread
After the first rise, I place the covered bowl in the refrigerator for 4 days for a slow cold proof. The dough will rise and fall while its in the fridge and that’s totally normal. By allowing the dough to ferment for several days it will create more flavor from the herbs and cheese, plus take on a tangy not like that of sourdough.
If you want to skip this step, simply divide the dough, shape into two loaves and proceed with final rise before baking.
When its baking day, remove the dough from the fridge and slowly press down a fist into the dough to remove air. Weigh and divide the dough in half. Shape each dough ball into an oval and place them on medium parchment paper lined rimmed baking sheets.
Irish Herb Cheddar Soda Bread Mini Loaf
Allow these dough loaves to come to room temperature and double in size. They, will stretch more outwardly rather than in height. Once ready they will rise in he oven while. baking.
Easy homemade herb bread with a lovely tang like sourdough. A yeasted bread recipe filled with fresh Italian herbs perfect for dipping in olive oil.A no yeast bread that is super quick to prepare! With swirls of herbs and ribbons of melted cheese, this is a wonderful afternoon tea served with lashings of butter, or for dipping into soups.
I like to wedge chunks of cheese in the batter so you get lovely pockets of cheese and the lovely textured crust on top.But you could just mix it through – even faster to prepare!!
No Knead Herb Bread
I’ve actually got reasonable upper body strength. My challenge is my height. Sigh. OK, there you have it. I haven’t admitted this on my blog before but not only do I have abnormally small Baby-Hands, I am also vertically challenged.
For those of you also in the same boat, you will understand when I say that kneading is much harder for short peoplebecause the work surface is higher and you don’t get the benefit of being able to push down with your body weight.
So. I love no yeast breads that don’t call for kneading – quick breads like this recipe, and these No Knead Dinner Rolls.
Instant Herb Bread
The ingredients of this no yeast bread are similar to a muffin but I altered the recipe to make it lesscrumbly, making it suitable to slice and even to toast. It is light, fluffy and super moist.

Ilike to add the herbs and slices of cheese inafter pouring the batter into the bread tin so that you get “swirls” of herband pockets of cheese in the bread, rather than almost invisiblebits of herb and grated cheese all throughout which you can’t really see. But this step is optional. The easier and faster way to make this is to mix grated cheese and herb into the batter, then just pour it all into the tin.
This bread lasts quite well – really fresh for 3 days in a very airtight container, up to 4 is ok. Beyond 4 I would toast it and store it in the fridge.
Easy Garlic Herb Sandwich Bread
Serve this as a side for meals, or for afternoon tea served with lashings of butter. It’s also fantastic for dipping into soupsand slow cooked stews!
2. You can substitute with pre sliced cheese but I found it did not work as well because they are slightly thinner so they sort of disappear when baked. Cutting it yourself means you can cut them slightly thicker so you will end up with some ribbons of melted cheese in the bread.
You can also substitute with grated cheese. If you do this, mix it straight into the batter just before pouring it in the tin.
No Knead Cheese Bread
Tasty cheese is a common type of cheese here in Australia. A great all rounder and very good value. You can use any type of melting cheese with flavour / salt that you wish. Colby, Monterey Jack, cheddar, gruyere are all great! I don't recommend Mozzarella - it does not have enough salt or flavour for this particular recipe.
3. You can substitute this with 1 cup + 3 tbsp milk at room temperature + 1 tbsp vinegar. Set aside for 10 minutes until the surface of the milk curdles. Then use the milk, including the curdled bits, as the buttermilk in this recipe.

How To Make The Best Herbed Garlic Bread Recipe
I believe you can make great food with everyday ingredients even if you’re short on time and cost conscious. You just need to cook clever and get creative! The great thing about this easy recipe is that it can easily highlight whatever fresh bit of herbs is growing in your garden right now.
You can choose to highlight just one herb like fresh rosemary or use a mixture of aromatic herbs for something extra flavorful.
Match the herbs to what you plan to serve the bread alongside. Serve it with pasta and make an italian herb bread, for example.
Garlic Herb Bread
Not sure exactly what herbs to pair with your meal? It seems to me that garlic cloves and fresh parsley or snipped chives complement most anything.
However, the herb butter can also be made ahead of time and frozen. Make your herb butter in different combinations as herbs are fresh in the summer months. Freeze that butter in hockey puck shapes and then store in freezer bags.
Let that herb infused butter thaw at room temperature and use it in the winter months to make this delicious yeast bread.

Swirled Garlic Herb Bread.
I went with a twisted bread loaf simply because I love how those look and I knew that the bits of green herbs peaking through would be especially beautiful.
Place the two halves next to each other and simply twist them around one another, pinching the ends to keep it sealed.
Don’t want to do a twist? You don’t have too. Simply leave it like a loaf of cinnamon swirl bread and bake it up.
Herb Quick Bread Recipe: How To Make It
I added minced garlic straight to the bread dough because I think it infuses the entire loaf with flavor in a way that isn’t overpowering at all.
This is a basic bread recipe with just a little switch up in the filling. Most beginning bakers can feel confident in having success with this as one of their first bread recipes.
The twist shape might feel a little intimidating but is honestly, not that hard and could be skipped until more skill is gained.
Italian Herb Bread Recipe
It’s a great bread with many pasta dishes, too. Heck, I can’t think of a savory meal that it wouldn’t make better.
