Boston Pizza Twist Bread Recipe

Guys, listen. I have something important to tell you about, and that thing is Twisted Pizza Breadsticks! You are going to love these! These little sticks of heaven are made using frozen bread dough and are pretty easy and very fun to make. They have gameday snacks, party food, or even pizza night dinner written all over them!

Breadsticks were invented in Turin, Italy, in the 14th century BCE, and have since become a common food in many restaurants and homes. Many people all across the world love pizza. Even the pickiest of diners will enjoy the irresistible blend of delectable crust, sweet tomato sauce, and salty mozzarella cheese. However, it is frequently described as unhealthy because it may be heavy in calories, sodium, and carbohydrates.

Cheesy

These days-long-lasting sticks were firm, cracker-like, and shaped like pencils. The secret was to bake them until they were crisp enough without scorching. These crunchy yet delightfully soft garlic sticks are made from pizza dough. They are baked to perfection while being covered in handmade roasted garlic butter. Using up leftover pizza dough is simple, and you can also make your own fresh batch (or in a pinch, you can use store-bought dough). They make an easy (and delicious) appetizer that is good on its own or dipped in marinara.

Herbed Garlic Bread Twists

These breadsticks made from pizza dough are incredibly simple and quick to make. They provide the tastiest starter or snack, which is guaranteed to become a household favorite. Simple store-bought pizza dough from the grocery store is used to make these breadsticks. They go well with appetizers for a game night or a holiday feast.

Instead of telling you a story about how we ate a whole batch of these pizza breadsticks for lunch this weekend, I’ll show you a photo tutorial of how to make them instead.

Crema Mexicana (or Mexican style sour cream) is rich, smooth, slightly sweet and pourable. It works great as a condiment or as a substitute for sour cream or creme fraiche in dip and sauce recipes.

If you are like me I am sure you have made or eaten plenty of sour cream and onion dips that are made with onion soup mix or flavoring packets.  Now those can be good, but this dip is GREAT! The only problem...

This is a herbaceous and fresh cilantro lime dip recipe that has only 3 ingredients, crema Mexicana, limes, and cilantro. It is amazing drizzled on tacos, nachos, quesadillas.  I love this recipe because...As much as I love carbs combined with sugar (cake! brownies! cookies!), I am equally smitten with  carbs + cheese. Mac and cheese? Yum! Pizza? Yes, please. Grilled cheese sandwich? Bring it on. Cheesy garlic and herb breadsticks? Yes, yes, a million times YES! When I saw this recipe on Shutterbean I knew that it wouldn’t be long until I recreated it in my own kitchen. I’m so glad that I did. I have never made breadsticks before – crazy, I know – and now that I know what I was missing, I’ll be making up for lost time. These will definitely be a part of our regular dinner rotation. I served them alongside turkey-spinach meatballs with marinara, and the breadsticks were extra tasty dipped in the marinara sauce.

Delicious 24 Hour Puffy Pizza Dough Recipe

I used store bought (Trader Joe’s) pizza crust for the dough, which made for an easy shortcut. There are a few steps involved in the recipe but none of them are difficult. To walk you through it: the breadsticks are made by rolling out pizza dough into a large rectangle. It then gets brushed with garlic oil and covered in herbs and cheese. The dough gets folded in half so that all the herby-cheesy goodness is on the inside. The dough is then cut into strips, which get twisted, and baked. After baking they get another brush of garlic oil and a sprinkling of cheese and herbs. The cheesy goodness from inside of the bread twists gets bubbly in the oven and the outer edges crisp up perfectly. These are a delicious combination of soft, chewy, herby, and cheesy. Carb and cheese heaven.

Seriously. These bad boys have helped me make instantaneous friends at church functions when I’m the new girl and made sad people happy. My friend Natalie, who used to work as my secretary (when I was an apartment manager; I’m not cool enough to actually have a personal secretary), loved these breadsticks; I’m pretty sure she only put up with the mind-numbing inanity of the world of apartment managing because there was a reasonable guarantee that she would get breadsticks on a semi-regular basis.

I can’t take all the credit. Or any of it, really. This is my friend Lisa’s recipe. But I use it for everything–pocket sandwiches (like Hot Pockets, only not gross), breakfast pocket sandwiches, pizza crust, pizza on the grill, pizza pockets, whatever. One major advantage is that this dough is very, very forgiving. If you’re just getting started, we recommend, checking out these tips on how to work with yeast dough, but this is a great dough to start with if you’re a yeast dough virgin or if you’ve had bad experiences working with yeast in the past.

To get started, you’ll need some yeast, sugar, and warm water. The water needs to be about 105-115 degrees F, which you can measure with a thermometer if you want, but I always say water hot enough that would feel like a hot shower but not so hot you wouldn’t want to wash your hair or your face in it. If it’s not warm enough, the yeast won’t activate and if it’s too hot, the yeast will die. The sugar feeds the yeast.

And mix well. Gradually add more flour (usually between 3-4 cups, depending on your elevation and your humidity) until dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl

Twisted

Remove from bowl and place on a surface sprayed with cooking spray. Roll into a rectangle and cut into 12 strips with a pizza cutter.

Roll out each piece of dough into a snake about 18″ long, then drape the middle of the “snake” over your forefinger

Place on baking sheet and repeat with remaining 11 pieces of dough. Try to space them evenly, but it’s okay if they’re close; pulling apart hot bread is one of life’s greatest pleasures!

When there’s about 15 minutes to go, preheat your oven to 425. When done rising, bake for 12-15 minutes (it will depend on your oven) or until golden on top.

Homemade Chocolate Babka

Rub some butter on top of the breadsticks (just put a ziploc bag on your hand, grab some softened butter, and have at it) and sprinkle with garlic bread seasoning

Pepperoni

Or the powdery Parmesan cheese in a can and garlic salt (or you could sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar. I did that once. It was awesome). If you’d like, you can serve with marinara for dipping.

They’re amazing hot, but I’m not gonna lie, they’re also pretty amazing at 11 pm when your kids are in bed and you’re pondering the meaning of life in the dark in the kitchen.
