For this recipe, you will need refrigerated biscuit dough, marinated mozzarella balls, salted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, shredded cheddar cheese, cooked bacon bits, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, everything bagel seasoning, and fresh parsley. Any of the cheese can be subbed for whatever you like or have on hand, Johnson notes. You can also use other toppings, and exclude cheese altogether if you'd like.
Cheese And Herbs Savory Monkey Bread
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Then, slice each biscuit in half. Take the biscuit halves, and stuff each one with a piece of mozzarella cheese. Then, roll the cheese-filled dough into a ball, and repeat these steps until you use up all of the dough and mozzarella cheese.
In a medium-sized bowl, toss in the melted butter, garlic powder, and onion powder. Grab the dough balls, and roll them in the butter mixture, followed by your preferred topping — shredded cheddar cheese, bacon, mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, everything bagel seasoning, or chopped parsley. It's best to make a variety, but you can always sneak in a few more of your favorites.
Then, grease a bundt pan, and start to load it up with the dough balls. Be sure to alternate the dough balls, as this will look better for the presentation.
Sourdough Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread
Bake the monkey bread in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. If the top layer of starts to look too brown, you can place foil on the top to make sure you get the full 30-minute bake, Johnson notes. When you remove the bread from the oven, cover it immediately, let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
After you let the cheesy, savory monkey bread sit for at least 10 minutes, you can serve and enjoy it. This bread makes a great appetizer, starter, or savory addition tot brunch. Monkey bread is also called pull-apart bread or bubble bread. It was likely named the way it is eaten — picking and pulling sections apart as a monkey might. It is made with a yeasted dough, which makes the bread super soft and stretchy.
You can make this recipe the night before and bake it off the next day if you would like. After the second rise, wrap the dough well and place it in your refrigerator. Before baking, let the dough come to room temperature for a couple of hours, unwrap, and bake as instructed!
I love the combination of Swiss and mozzarella cheese for this recipe, but feel free to use your favorites! Keep in mind that every type of cheese does melt differently, so your results may vary. You may also want to experiment with different fresh herbs from my recipe, which calls for parsley and thyme. Again, different herbs are better with certain cheeses than others!

Once they are roasted and cooled a bit, you can simply squeeze the garlic out. It will still taste like garlic, but roasted garlic takes on a sweeter, more mild flavor as it caramelizes, and it becomes soft and buttery and loses the sharpness of raw garlic.
