Easy Cheesy Monkey Bread Recipe

You know how when people really like something, they call it “The greatest thing since sliced bread”?Well, I never could see what’s all that great about sliced bread. It’s handy for sandwiches, sure. But it’s not nearly as much fun as pull apart bread.

Pull apart bread is a great party appetizer that’s like a bunch of little individual rolls baked together into one big loaf. You can make the loaf any shape you want – I used a Bundt pan here to make a ring shape. Then instead of slicing it, you just grab the piece you want and pull, and a perfect portion comes off right in your hand, piping hot and delicious.

Pull apart bread is incredibly easy to make. All you need is some refrigerated biscuit dough, melted butter, and your favorite toppings. You can use bacon, cheddar, chives – whatever floats your boat. Just roll the biscuits into little balls, dip them in butter, top them, and add them to the pan. No kneading, no rolling, no rising – just fill up a pan with little dough balls and bake them all together.

You can even make one loaf with lots of different flavors, so everyone at your party can have their favorite. For this loaf, I used mozzarella cheese, dry ranch dressing, mixed Italian herbs, and garlic, and they all get along fine together.

Serve Easy Cheesy Pull Apart Breadhot with a nice marinara sauce on the side for dipping. I promise you, no one will ask for sliced bread instead.

Assorted herbs/toppings:I used mozzarella cheese, a Ranch packet, mixed Italian herbs, and garlic. Other topping ideas: bacon crumbles, parmesancheese, cheddar cheese, parsley, dill, etc..

Monkey Bread With Cream Cheese In The Center!

This recipe makes an amazingly cheesy, garlicky, herby, savory monkey bread — I think I’ve perfected the combination of ingredients on this one.

My homemade savory monkey bread calls for both Swiss and mozzarella cheese, making this bread both melty and stringy, so you get the best of both worlds. It also features garlic in two ways — roasted and sweet and raw and spicy. I also add fresh herbs to brighten it up for the best cheesy, bready snack!

Monkey bread is also called pull-apart bread or bubble bread. It was likely named the way it is eaten — picking and pulling sections apart as a monkey might. It is made with a yeasted dough, which makes the bread super soft and stretchy.

You can make this recipe the night before and bake it off the next day if you would like. After the second rise, wrap the dough well and place it in your refrigerator. Before baking, let the dough come to room temperature for a couple of hours, unwrap, and bake as instructed!

I love the combination of Swiss and mozzarella cheese for this recipe, but feel free to use your favorites! Keep in mind that every type of cheese does melt differently, so your results may vary. You may also want to experiment with different fresh herbs from my recipe, which calls for parsley and thyme. Again, different herbs are better with certain cheeses than others!

Once they are roasted and cooled a bit, you can simply squeeze the garlic out. It will still taste like garlic, but roasted garlic takes on a sweeter, more mild flavor as it caramelizes, and it becomes soft and buttery and loses the sharpness of raw garlic.
