Yogurt: This recipe mixes up best when it is made with regular yogurt (not Greek style). I find that the thickness of Greek yogurt makes the dough more dense. If you have only have Greek yogurt you can thin it out by stirring in a couple splashes of milk or water. Measure it after thinning it.

Honey Oatmeal Bread — Sustained Kitchen

As a dietitian, I love that this recipe uses wholesome ingredients that are both healthier and more affordable than most store-bought bread.

As far as accessories are concerned, you don’t need much. You need two bowls, a whisk, a wooden spoon and a 9 x 5 rectangle baking pan. That’s it!

The first thing we will do is either grease and flour or spray non-stick spray in a 9 x 5 (2L) loaf pan.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour (3 cups), baking soda (2 teaspoons), and salt (¼ teaspoon). Take a few minutes to properly whisk these ingredients together to ensure an even distribution of the baking soda. Set it aside.

Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and, with a wooden spoon, stir to combine. You will notice that the mixture comes together very quickly.

Immediately transfer the batter to the 9 x 5 loaf pan. If desired, sprinkle the top of the loaf with about one tablespoon of sunflower seeds.

Remove from the oven and allow it to cool down on a wire rack for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan.

To replace 1 cup of buttermilk, measure and pour 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar in a 1 cup measurer. Pour enough milk to reach the 1-cup mark. Stir and allow to sit for about 5 minutes.

Baking soda is a key ingredient in many baking recipes, and it’s essential to store it properly to stay fresh and effective.  Store baking soda in an airtight container at room temperature for up to six months. This will help keep it fresh and prevent it from absorbing moisture.

It can be enjoyed plain or used for sandwiches.

Ingredient Honey Bread (no Yeast, Eggs, Butter Or Oil)

I love honey-flavored baked goods and this honey bread is one of my favorite breads to make. The bread is lightly sweetened with honey. You can eat it plain or drizzled with more honey or you can even use the bread to make sandwiches.

Self-Rising Flour: Self-rising flour is all purpose flour that is already premixed with baking powder and salt. I like to always have self-rising flour on hand because it saves a few extra minutes. If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can easily make your own by mixing together all purpose flour, baking powder and salt.

The flour and milk are first stirred together until a wet dough forms. The honey is warmed up briefly so that it is a thin liquid and then stirred in. You want to warm up the honey first so that it is easier to stir into the dough. The dough is then poured into your prepared baking loaf pan and ready to be baked.

Honey Wheat Sandwich Bread

This bread has a similar texture to bread made with yeast. It is not a cake-type bread. It is soft but sturdy enough for adding a spread or making sandwiches. The bread is sweetened with honey but it’s not so sweet that it would be considered a cake or dessert.
