Versions of garlic bread are popular throughout North America and Europe. The following is our dairy-free take on the toasty, garlicky, buttery dish!

This vegan garlic bread starts with a buttery spread made with your favorite dairy-free butter (we like Miyoko’s), chopped garlic, fresh parsley, and salt and pepper. It’s perfectly garlicky, herby, salty, and creamy!

After mixing it together, the spread becomes slightly softened and perfect for lathering on your favorite bread. We tested with sourdough, gluten-free, and whole wheat sandwich bread as well as a baguette, and all worked incredibly well!

A bread maker simplifies the job to make these soft, cheesy garlic bread to a great extent as it takes care of the mixing, kneading, and getting the dough through its first rise once the ingredients are put in the right order. Read more about how to make perfect dough using a bread machine.

Depending on your bread machine, put the wet and dry ingredients in the pan of the bread machine based on the manufacturer's instructions. I have added water, oil, sugar, salt, Italian seasoning, bread machine flour, and instant yeast.

Start the dough cycle and allow the ingredients to mix and knead. While the dough is going through the rising phase, make a mixture of melted butter, finely chopped garlic, and fresh rosemary twigs.

Once the dough cycle is complete, remove the pan and place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Divide it using a pizza cutter into smaller balls of about an inch in diameter and place them in a baking tray allowing some space between them to rise.

Coat the balls with butter and garlic and spread some cheese of your choice and allow it to rise for the final time for about 90 minutes in a warm place like an oven.

Once the balls get the final rise, bake them in a preheated oven at 350 deg F for about 20 mins. They can be served as is or with some marinara sauce.

This garlic bread is super rich, and I won’t apologize for it. Hahaha, it’s restaurant-style. We are not skimping on the (vegan) butter nor on that delicious crushed garlic.

The best bread to use is a baguette. You get different kinds of baguettes, some are softer and some have a crispier crust. Either one is going to work great here, but just bear in mind that if you want some crunchy crust to your garlic bread that you should use a baguette that is nice and crispy on the outside to start with.

You bake the garlic bread in foil so if it’s a softer baguette to start off with, it’s not going to become crispy in the oven, it will end the way it started (in terms of crispiness).

In terms of size, we used a baguette that was 2 feet long (24″). You cut that in half and make two loaves of garlic bread from it.
