Easy

Generally there are standard-sized two loaf pans most people have, a 9″x 5″ and an 8 1/2″x 4″x 1/2″. For this bread you can use either as it doesn’t rise too much. I usually use the 9×5-inch ones; however, if you have the smaller one, you’ll just get a slightly thicker bread so really both will work here.

Beer Bread (or Rolls)

If it’s the alcohol you don’t want in your bread, then there are some really great non-alcoholic options out there these days. You could substitute with club soda or seltzer water. However, I think you lose a bit of the richness of flavor with those. The yeast in beer adds a nice, deep background flavor.

For this recipe you can use pretty much any beer that you like. If you use a lighter (in color) beer, you won’t really taste the beer at all. However, if you go with a darker beer, you’ll get more of that flavor infused into the bread. So choose a beer that you know you will like. I prefer a lighter colored beer like Corona or Blue Moon Belgian White.

If you want to flavor your bread you absolutely can. This is a great base recipe! Sometimes I add shredded cheddar cheese to this to make a Cheddar Beer Bread. You will want to add about 1 cup shredded cheese for the loaf. Some other additions would be bacon, jalapeño or green onion.

Quick & Easy Beer Bread

Beer Bread is done when a toothpick inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean. If it is still a little wet, then it needs more time to bake.

You can store this bread in an airtight container on the countertop for up to 1 week. This bread also freezes well. Wrap cooled bread in plastic wrap then place in a freezer bag. Bread can remain in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, let the bread thaw overnight in the refrigerator. To reheat you can either toast it, or heat on a low setting in your oven until heated through.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray. Whisk the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt together in a large bowl.

Beer:  Beer helps this bread rise, and it also adds flavor. Dark beer, like stouts, have a deep flavor, while light beer makes for lighter-tasting bread. Both are great; just use what you have on hand!

That’s all there is to it! It’s great with butter and jam or served with stew or soups for dunking and dipping. Serve with soup or a yummy bruschetta for the perfect side dish or appetizer!

Beer can be replaced with seltzer water but the beer adds flavor so you will want to add additional seasonings or additions. Don’t skip the salt & sugar, and don’t skimp on the butter or the bread will not have any flavor.

You can add seasonings like garlic powder, herbs such as dried basil or parsley, and/or parmesan or cheddar cheese to change up the flavor.

And for me, there’s nothing so comforting as fresh-baked bread.

Easy

Unfortunately, the process of making bread from scratch isn’t so comforting. In fact, it can be kind of stressful. There are so many steps: mixing, kneading, rising, punching down, and yet another round of rising before baking. And yeast is a fiddly ingredient that doesn’t always work the way you want it to. You have to coax it along, giving it just the right amount of moisture and heat, to get it to do its job.

What we could all really use right now is a nice, simple bread recipe without the yeast. And here it is: Easy No Yeast Beer Bread.

The key to this is, beer already has yeast in it. So when you mix beer with flour, sugar, and other ingredients of your choosing, that yeast goes right to work on the sugar and helps the bread rise. You get the yeasty taste and light texture of a traditional kneaded bread without all the work and time required to make one.

Both canned and bottled beers work in this recipe, but the type of beer you choose affects the flavor. For instance, darker beers having a stronger, heartier taste. Also, if the beer has any added flavors, like a spiced brew or chocolate stout, those will come through in the bread. For a neutral-tasting bread, use the most boring, bland beer you can find.

Beer has yeast, but it doesn’t always have enough to make the bread rise on its own. Craft brews sometimes leave the live yeast in (it forms a sort of sediment in the bottle), but mass-produced beers usually filter it out. If you relied on just the beer for rising, it might come out too dense. The baking powder is a fail-safe to make sure it’s nice and light. But if you use self-rising flour, you can leave out the baking powder, along with the salt.

It should come out moist and tender on the inside, with a hearty, chewy, butter-laden crust. If you prefer it with a softer crust, you can mix the melted butter into the batter instead of pouring it on top.
