Warm from the oven, my husband and I couldn’t get enough we tore a piece and dipped our bread into an Italian olive oil dip and it was simply perfection! This recipe is simple and easy to make, the long part is letting the bread proof twice in a bowl and into the skillet before baking. The final product is a delicious homemade olive bread that is rustic and crusty, perfect to serve as an appetizer and sure to impress your guests.

Easy Rosemary Garlic Focaccia Bread

Start by proofing your yeast in luke warm water. Add one cup of flour, salt and seasonings, slowly mix everything together and add the remaining cups of flour one at a time mixing everything in between. Let the dough rise for an hour in a warm place. Carefully transfer your dough to an oiled cast iron skillet or dutch oven and let it rise again. Before baking drizzle olive oil on top, sprinkle with korse salt, parsley and rosemary. Score the bread and bake for 30 minutes. Let it cool prior to slicing.

Spread it with butter, dip it in Italian olive oil and balsamic vinegar and a glass of wine, serve it as a sandwich or enjoy with soup.

I get it, because I also felt the same way. Getting started with sourdough is well worth it and I find the whole process almost meditative. Seeing your daunted questions however, I was inspired to share the kind of easy recipe I started my bread journey with - a no-knead loaf. These kind of loaves honestly could not be more foolproof if they tried. I have been able to make crispy, rustic loaves with no kneading required in as little as 2 hours all in. If you’re looking for an easy start to bread making, I’ve got you!

All you need to make great bread easily at home is a dutch oven. You can pick these up inexpensively and I use mine almost every single day. They work well for bread because they trap steam inside, creating a beautiful crusty loaf.

There are two variations on this recipe. The first one is an overnight loaf (preferable if you have the time) and the second is a two hour loaf if you’re in a pinch. It still tastes (and looks) great, but the overnight loaf will have a more developed flavour. Although I use olives here, don’t let that put you off if you aren’t a fan. You can omit them entirely or swap for sun-dried tomatoes or even roasted garlic bulbs.

A bread maker is very easy to use, and usually comes with a manual in the box. Keep this safe as each bread maker may have different measurements to use.

Some love the mess of rolling out dough on the surfaces covered with flour, but others prefer a cleaner way of bread making. Bread makers do offer a cleaner way of baking - which may save time and effort with washing up bowls and flour dust.

Easy No Knead Olive & Herb Bread — Hello Gemma

I made this recipe but did so by hand/ using my kitchen aid and it came out really well. One review said to reduce salt, but I actually found mine still could have taken the full amount. Personal preference! I also accidentally added my olives before the first rise and it still worked fine. Rather than drying the olives, I rolled them in flour first so they were easier to combine. I cooked as one large loaf for 4o minutes. Happy Baking!

Hi there, yes you could bake this by hand as opposed to a bread maker. Just combine ingredients in the same way you would usually for a hand-baked loaf - dry ingredients first, stir in yeast and then add the olives, oil and water before also kneading by hand and then leaving to prove. Happy Baking!

Fun to make and delicious to eat. I used pitted olives in brine and sliced them. If using olives that were stored in brine, I would recommend leaving out the salt from the recipe - it makes the bread too salty. Other than that, it went down a treat with my family- finished within a few hours of making it!

Rustic Olive Sourdough Bread Recipe

I love this bread! I make it without a bread maker - I mix herbs (I use fresh herbs from my garden - chopped very finely) in with dry stuff, then add water and oil and bring the dough together. I add the olives when I start to knead. I use olives in brine and after chopping them up, I spend some time drying them using paper towels. I didn't do this the first time and even though I let them drain, they added quite a lot of extra moisture to the dough during kneading.

How To Make Perfect Garlic Bread (no Fail Recipe)

Of course, snagging an olive as you eat is a delight all of its own (I believe there's a place for an olive on every dinner table), but because the tangy, buttery olive flavor pervades the entire loaf, you taste their impact in each bite. Perhaps my favorite part of this green olive and herb sourdough bread, though, is the incredible crust.

When combined with piquant herbs, the small amount of olive juice in the dough transforms the crust into a brittle makeshift cracker deep with concentrated olive and herb flavor. There's always a place for a thick, rustic crust in my baking, but this bread brings joy through a movement in the other direction. Finishing off the loaf with a thick layer of raw wheat germ after shaping echoes the tuft of wild herbs added to the dough, a sort of bread alliteration that leads to a lovely loaf, indeed.

Any high-quality whole wheat flour will work well for the whole-grain portion of this loaf. I used Carolina Ground whole wheat for the entire 30%, which brought significant flavor all on its own.

Herb And Olive Focaccia

Be sure to rinse your olives under running water and let them dry before mixing them into your dough. While salty brine is welcome in many instances, adding too much to the dough could mean an overly salty loaf of bread. I like to leave the green olives whole in this recipe to show off their striking color and form when this bread is sliced. If you want more olive coverage throughout the loaf, feel free to chop the olives as fine as you'd like. I chopped about a quarter of the olives and left the rest whole.

I chose to use pitted Castelvetrano olives for this loaf, but Frescatrano or other green olive variety would work well with this dough recipe. Also, check out my Tartine olive sourdough bread if you're looking at using your Kalamata or other black olives!
