I’ll be the first to admit my love affair with my Fluffy Vegan Banana Bread , but sometimes you just want to switch things up.

As I was brainstorming recipes ideas, I thought to myself “what do people love as much as bananas?” Maybe I’m just overly obsessed with spuds , but Sweet Potatoes immediately came to mind.

Gluten Free Sweet Potato Bread Recipe

This fluffy loaf is actually more convenient than banana bread too. You may not always have some brown and spotty bananas lying around, but you can always roast up some sweet potatoes for this recipe 😉

Plus, this bread is made with simple and nourishing plant-based ingredients. No refined sugars, processed flours, or oils to see here! I enjoy this Sweet Potato Bread for breakfast, an afternoon pick-me-up, or an evening treat. It’s great as-is, but it’s also extra amazing if you heat it up and put a generous slather of almond butter on top.

Almond Butter may be substituted with any other Nut or Seed Butter, just keep in mind that this will affect the overall flavor of the bread.

To make Oat flour, simply blend your oats in a high speed blender or food processor for 30-45 seconds, or until finely milled.

Vegan Sweet Potato Crumble Bread

Sorghum flour is made from ground whole grain sorghum. It has a mild flavour and smooth, not grainy texture, making it an optimal choice in gluten-free sweet breads, pancakes and cakes.

Not only is it nutrient-rich, but its sweet, nutty flavour lends itself to fall flavours, in particular the warm sweet potato and spices in this wheat-free sweet potato bread. Sorghum flour gives baked goods and quick breads a tender, spongey texture not dissimilar to wheat flour so it's a great choice for gluten-free baking.

As someone who reluctantly eats gluten-free baked goods, I can honestly say that I was really surprised by how well sorghum flour bakes in this recipe. It's so worth picking up a bag. Head to your local specialty store if you can't find it order it online.

Sweet Potato Rolls [vegan]

Vegan gluten-free baking may seem daunting, but it’s actually really simple! Just like banana bread, this recipe is made in 1 bowl or in a food processor which makes it even easier. And there is very little cleanup!

Step 1 - Grease and line a loaf pan with a strip of parchment paper down the middle. This will act as handles when you need to remove the baked bread from the pan.

Step 2 - Add the oats to the bowl of a food processor (see recipe notes if you don't have one) and process until a coarse flour.

Step 3 - Next, add in the sweet potato flesh, sugar, nut/seed butter (or oil), milk, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt and process until mostly smooth.

Step 6 - Sprinkle the top of the dough with chopped nuts and a generous amount of coarse sugar then bake. Here's what it looks like when it's done:

Storage - Wrap the bread tightly in plastic wrap once it’s cool. As much as I hate plastic wrap, it works best to keep this bread moist and stop it from drying out.A plastic bag will do a similarly good job and you can re-use the same plastic bag again and again.

Savory Sweet Potato Bread (paleo, Nut Free)

Freezing - Sweet potato bread can be wrapped well and frozen for up to 3 months. You can wrap it whole, or slice it then wrap it either all together or in individual slices. Defrost at room temperature.

This gluten-free sweet potato bread is just perfect on its own, but it's also great when sliced and spread with vegan butter or nut/seed butter. A drizzle of vegan honey, date caramel, or the sweet potato caramel from my Vegan Sweet Potato Pancakes recipe is also really good with it.

You sure can! Add muffin liners to a standard muffin tin and divide the batter between 12 wells. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick, skewer, or sharp knife inserted into the middle of one comes out clean.

Whole Grain + Vegan Sweet Potato Bread

I highly recommend you use sorghum flour for this recipe. In my tests it outperformed other gluten-free flours and gave the best texture and flavour when used in combination with the oat flour.

First up be sure to use oat flour, then you don't have to worry about processing the oats. Use exactly the same amount. Mash up the sweet potato really well so it's like a puree then whisk it really well into the milk with the nut/seed butter, vinegar, spices and salt. Then you can mix everything up in a large bowl as per the instructions pretty easily.  If you prefer and have a stand mixer with a paddle attachment you can also use that to puree the sweet potato and mix the batter.

This vegan sweet potato bread is everything. It's easy to make (just 15 minutes of active kitchen time required), comes together with a simple list of ingredients, and is a total crowd-pleaser.

In addition to several rounds of testing, I've made it three times in the last month, and I've set my sights on a fourth encounter this weekend.

Whisk together a bit of ground flaxseed and some filtered water. Let the mixture rest for about five minutes, or until it thickens into a goopy consistency.

Then, whisk in the remaining wet ingredients, including sweet potato purée (or pumpkin if you prefer), finely grated carrot, coconut sugar, grapeseed oil, maple syrup, and vanilla.

Once the batter is ready, pour or scoop it into a parchment-lined (or greased) loaf pan. If desired, sprinkle the surface with pepitas and/or chopped walnuts (totally optional, absolutely delicious).

Bake for 45+ minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs at the tip.

Gluten Free, Milk Free, Egg Free Sweet Potato Bread

Let the sweet potato bread cool in the pan for a bit and then transfer it to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.

Then, slice and enjoy all on its own or with a slather of vegan butter and fruit preserves if you're feeling extra fancy.
