Use up your overripe bananas to make this healthy banana bread. Sweetened only with fruit it makes a great snack for babies and kids.
Banana bread is the perfect way to use up overripe bananas but many versions resemble a dessert recipe rather than a healthy snack. They taste delicious but are definitely not something we want to continually fill out little one's tummies up with.

Even healthy recipes are packed full of honey or maple syrup meaning they still have a high sugar content and in my mind are still regarded as a dessert recipe.
Wholemeal Banana Bread Recipe
This version is only sweetened with fruit, there are a few dates to help with the sweetness, so I still consider this an occasional treat, but it is noticeably less sweet than most banana bread recipes, even the healthy ones.
The great thing about banana bread is how easy it is to make. It is one of those recipes that doesn't require any fancy ingredients and generally most households have all the ingredient to hand (and are actually looking for a way to use up brown bananas).
Although an easy recipe to follow, there are still a few pitfalls that you'll want to avoid. Below you will find my top tips to ensure you have perfect banana bread every time.

Sweetened only with fruit and made with wholemeal flour, this is a healthy snack rather than a sugary dessert recipe. Perfect for young children.
Dates: I used fresh Medjool dates which blended easily. If your dates are dried then you should soak in boiling water for 10 mins before draining and blending. You can add more or less dates depending on how sweet you want your bread to be. No dates? You can just skip them (if you are not worried about sweetness) or replace the date and milk mixture with ½ cup of maple syrup.
Really Easy Air Fryer Banana Bread (mini Loaf!)
Flour: I used a white wholemeal flour. I can not guarantee what the results will be like with less processed wholemeal flour as I haven't tested. You can replace with plain (all purpose) flour or do a mixture of wholemeal and all purpose.

A Healthy Bread Recipe By Coach Jennifer
Babies and toddlers don’t need all the sugar and excessive salt we’ve grown accustomed to as adults. I’ve teamed up with my friend/registered dietician, founder of Babies Feeding Babies, who specializes in baby led weaning and nutrition. Our goal was to make a bread that is delicious enough to be toddler (and even parent approved!) for taste, and health approved for babies. I modified my original Oatmeal Bread recipe and went through several tests to make this the perfect bread!

Use to serve plain, or cut into slices and use as french toast sticks, or as a vehicle for baby friendly toppings such as:
Homemade is always better than the loaves you buy at the store that are loaded with preservatives, and this recipe is taken even one step further to ensure it is baby approved for best nutrition.
Bread For Baby (plus Best Toast Options)
Low Sodium (only 1/2 tsp in a whole loaf! Half the amount in my normal bread, and significantly less than store bought bread)
Natural or no sugar (I use date syrup, or you can even opt to use honey after 1 year of age, or nothing. Date syrup has 30% less natural sugar than honey making it a great natural, subtle sweetener. You can make your own or buy it online and at most stores.)
Dairy free (I use coconut oil or suggest grape seed oil. You can also opt to use butter, which isn’t dairy free but a good fat in moderation.)

This bread is fool proof easy, only using simple ingredients and techniques. I love using an electric mixer to knead the dough to make my life that much easier, but you can also knead it by hand no problem.
There are so many ways to use this bread with your little one. Freeze one loaf to have as an easy go to later, or even better, double the batch to have a whole freezer reserve ready.

Use this bread to make healthy french toast, as a base for a modified baby friendly pizza, or as a helpful vehicle for healthy toppings such as cottage cheese, hummus, avocado, nut butters, baby purees, etc. This bread is a great support for baby led weaning, as it provides a hand held approach when wanting to incorporate some of those food items that usually require a spoon like the ideas mentioned earlier.
Easy Whole Wheat Bread
Whisk or blend ingredients together and dip slices of crust-free bread in egg mixture. Cook on a heated griddle or pan on all sides until evenly cooked.

Bread can be stored in an airtight bread bag at room temperature for about 5 days and can be frozen for up to 6 months.
Baby Oatmeal Bread
Date syrup is a fantastic natural sugar that has 30% less sugar than honey. You can substitute date syrup for honey (for children over the age of 1 year) or you can omit it all together. Without the sweetener the bread has less flavor, so I keep it a bread my whole family is willing to eat. However, your baby is not going to care, so if this is made just for them, feel free to remove it entirely. If you do remove it, you will need slightly less flour. Plan to add about 1/4-1/2 cup less all purpose flour You can start serving bread to your baby as soon as they’re ready to start solids, usually around 6 months. One thing to note is that bread contains wheat, which is one of the top 9 food allergens. Do introduce it early and often as research suggests that doing so may dramatically reduce the risk of developing an allergy. Just be sure to start with a small amount and serve earlier in the day.
If you need step-by-step guidance on how to introduce the top 9 allergenic foods in a strategic way along with video tutorials on how to serve the food so it’s the perfect size and texture for baby, introduce variety without spending hours in the kitchen, and so much more, check out my 3 month meal plan course.

Look for the lowest option you can find. Why? Their kidneys can't handle too much. Learn how much sodium your baby can have in a day and some practical tips to help make sure they don't get too much in their diet.
I actually never realized how much sodium there is in one slice of bread until we started solids. Spend some time reading nutrition labels, which will become second nature to you.
Ezekiel Low sodium sprouted bread which has 0 mg of sodium worked out really well for us. It's usually found in the freezer section.

The current recommendation is to avoid added sugars until 2.Opt for bread that contains 0 grams of added sugars. If it’s not mentioned on the label, look at the ingredient list. They may contain honey too so definitely check for that. Remember, NO honey until 1.
There’s a lot of misinformation out there that suggests babies shouldn’t have whole grains. I’m here to tell you
