Soft, fluffy and delicious homemade naan bread made with just TWO ingredients! This 2 ingredient dough naan bread is healthier than traditional naan and takes less than 10 minutes to make- no yeast!

Now, don’t get me wrong. I didn’t go out and buy this particular type of flour as if you look through my recipes, it’s not a flour I regularly use.

The famous 2 ingredient weight watchers dough has been used to make these 2 ingredient bagels, 2 ingredient pizza crusts and 2 ingredient soft pretzels.

Healthier Homemade Garlic Naan (vegetarian, No Yeast Flat Bread)

Traditional naan bread is a staple bread in many East Asian countries, like India and Sri Lanka. It’s leavened and most often baked in the oven.

In this recipe, we don’t bake the naan bread but instead, dry fry it (pan fry it without oil). This makes is SO much quicker.

Depending on where in the world you are and how you make your naan bread, it can be healthy. More often than not, it is what you eat WITH the naan bread that can tip it in the direction of unhealthy.

Gluten Free Naan (vegan Flatbread)

While traditional naan bread tends to be coated in oil or butter, my version is healthier than the original and virtually fat-free!

Making naan bread from scratch is SO simple. As it contains no yeast, it literally takes less than 10 minutes to make a batch!

In a large mixing bowl, you’ll want to combine your flour, salt (if using it) and Greek yogurt and mix until combined. If you like, use your hands to mix in the dough until fully incorporated. Form a big ball of dough.

Then, you’ll lightly flour a wooden or kitchen surface. Sprinkle a little extra flour on the ball of dough, and transfer onto the floured surface. Press the ball of dough into a circular shape and cut into 8 even pieces. Flatten each piece of dough, and form a rough, oblong shape.

Finally, you will heat a large non-stick pan on medium heat. When hot, place one piece of naan dough onto the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, before flipping and cooking for another 2 minutes. Repeat until all the dough has been used up and 8 naan bread remains!

While Greek yogurt is the only kind of yogurt that works well (including vegan Greek yogurt) there IS another alternative for Greek yogurt that can be used.

Keto Naan Bread Recipe

Sour cream works in the same way Greek yogurt does, as it is thick and holds together. You can substitute the Greek yogurt with sour cream.

To refrigerate: You should avoid refrigerating the uncooked dough, as it will become stickier the longer it sits. You will need to add extra flour to make it durable to form into naan bread.

To freeze: Cooked naan bread is freezer friendly. Place the naan bread in a ziplock bag. They will keep fresh frozen for up to 6 months.

The Best Buttery Garlic Naan Bread Recipe

Thanks to the optional (or not optional) finishing brush of garlic butter, it holds its own against any traditional naan recipe you’d order in a restaurant.

It is a pillow of carb perfection, made to tear with your fingers and dip into curries with delight—unless you are 12-year-old Erin, in which case you will skip the curry and happily devour the naan for your entire meal.

Indian food is healthy, you can find the ingredients you need to make it an average grocery store, and it’s become one of my favorite ways to add variety to our dinners.

With all of the healthy Indian recipes on my site, I thought it was about time we had a homemade naan to dip with them. Here we are!

I skipped the yeast and used baking powder to leaven it. Since naan is a flatbread, you can get away with it.

My favorite way to prepare this naan is in batches. Cook one ball of naan dough on the skillet while you roll the next.

You can keep batches warm in the oven until you finish them all, or do what we do: enjoy the first few hot off the skillet while you cook the rest.

Making vegan naan is difficult, because the yogurt plays a role in giving it tang and a plush interior. If you decide to experiment with a non-dairy yogurt to make your own vegan naan, I’d love to hear how it goes!

Whole Wheat Naan Bread

I highly recommend using a cast iron skillet for this recipe. It does the best job of creating those irresistible outside blisters and puffed interior.

If you don’t plan to cook the whole batch at once, roll the rested dough into balls, and refrigerate them in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to 3 months. When ready to cook, roll and prepare as directed (if frozen, let thaw in the refrigerator first).

Use your leftover naan to make classic Naan Pizza or this delicious Grilled Naan Pizza with Strawberry Chicken and Avocado, or use it as a base for any of your favorite pizza/flatbread toppings. For an easy sandwich, use a piece of naan as the bread (Curry Chicken Salad would be a tasty filling). Naan at brunch would be the perfect thing to dip into Eggs in Purgatory.

Easy Naan Bread Recipe (yeast Free)

A traditional garlic naan bread however can cost you a whole load of calories - around 300 to be exact, some even more than that depending on the size.

If you have been healthy eating for a while and watching the calories, you have probably come across the popular Greek Yoghurt Dough. It generally uses equal volumes of self raising flour and yoghurt in cup measurements. I use plain flour in my recipe.

Also, if you don't measure accurately the dough just isn't the right consistency, because when it comes to baking especially bread, cakes etc those measurements need to be precise. So through trial and error of testing out my naan bread - these measurements are what I found to yield the best result.
