Absolutely yes. By using the same leavening ingredients used to make cookies and cakes rise, can also be used in homemade bread. And they’re ingredients we most likely have on hand: baking powder and baking soda.

In a medium bowl, combine the oats, buttermilk, oil, honey, and egg. Mix until well blended. Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes to hydrate.

Once the oat mixture has hydrated, stir it into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined being careful not to overmix so that the bread will remain light. Add a bit more buttermilk if needed to create a loose batter. This measurement generally works for me though.

Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle a few oats over the top of the batter. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes or until raised and golden brown. Remove the bread from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Run a knife around the edges of the loaf pan to release the bread. Transfer it to a rack to cool completely before slicing.

Quick breasts are also considered yeastless bread recipes. But soda bread is one of my favorite ways to make a yeastless bread.

While I like to keep buttermilk in the refrigerator, it has a way of disappearing at my house. To make your own, measure 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice into a liquid measuring cup. Then add milk until it measures 1 1/2 cups. Let sit about 10 minutes to activate.

While they both work to create a thick buttermilk consistency, the vinegar gives a more accurate flavor to true buttermilk. But sometimes, lemon juice tastes better. Either way -- it will be delicious! This easy no yeast bread is the perfect solution for a crustyloaf of bread with only 6 ingredients. Also known as soda bread, homemade no yeast bread gets its rise from baking soda instead of yeast, resulting in a tight crumb that isn’t light and fluffy. If you want an airy bread, I recommend my easy no knead bread or perfect challah.

The flavor is what makes this no yeast bread stand out. Usually, this kind of bread is made with only 4 ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, and buttermilk. In my research, I read in Cook’s Illustrated that they added sugar and butter to give extra flavor to the bread. I tried this out in my own recipe and haven’t left it out since.

For a homemade bread recipe with no yeast, you don’t need to worry about preheating a Dutch oven, turning on your mixer, or wondering if the dough proofed enough. Simply preheat your oven and line a regular baking sheet to get things ready before you mix your dough.

In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients until well combined. Add in the butter with your fingers (you can also use a fork/spatula) until evenly distributed. Add in the buttermilk and mix until a shaggy, slightly moist dough forms.

If the dough is too crumbly, you may need to add more buttermilk but be careful not to overdo it. Turn out the shaggy dough and any flour crumbles onto a floured surface and knead gently until a cohesive ball forms. It won’t look pretty and smooth like a yeasted dough, but instead will be lumpy and shaggy.

Form the rounded dough into a 7-inch loaf and transfer to your baking sheet. Score a deep “X” into the top with a knife to and sprinkle with optional rolled oats. Bake until golden brown, about 40-45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reads 180ÂşF. Transfer to a wire rack and cool to room temperature.

No Knead Whole Wheat Dutch Oven Bread

No Yeast Wheat Bread is absolutely incredible. No yeast needed. The ingredients are all very basic and you don’t need beer or any other yeast substitute. You don’t even need eggs either! And all you need is a spoon to mix the batter – no mixer or kneading required.

This bread recipe is a little bit sweeter and a little bit more dense than traditional wheat bread, but it really is so yummy and tastes so good with just a little bit of butter. I’ll be completely honest in saying that I still prefer a honey wheat bread recipe that has yeast in it, but if you don’t have the time or you don’t have yeast, this recipe is a fabulous option and it really is delicious, I promise!

Easy

Flour – The recipe calls for whole wheat flour and a little bit of regular all-purpose flour as well. You can change the ratio a little bit or even just use all wheat flour, but the bread will be even more dense at that point.

No Yeast Sourdough Bread

Baking soda and salt – Make sure your baking soda isn’t expired. If your baking soda is old, the bread may be a little more flat than you’re hoping for!

Molasses – Just a little bit of molasses, but it adds such a wonderful flavor to this bread. If you don’t have molasses, you can use honey instead. If you use honey, the color of the bread will be a little lighter as well.

Buttermilk – If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own very easily! All you have to do is add 2 Tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar to 2 cups of regular milk and let it sit for about 10 minutes before adding to the recipe.

Mix in the molasses and buttermilk and stir until everything is moistened. Don’t stir the batter too much – you only want to stir just until everything is combined.

Pour the batter into a 9X5 bread pan that has been well greased. I like to use the non-stick baking spray that has flour in it with this bread recipe because it is stickier than regular yeast breads.

Bake for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out of the center cleanly. I like to use a food thermometer to see if the bread is done – the internal temp in the center of the bread should be about 190°F. If the top looks like it is getting too brown, you can put some foil over the top for the last part of baking, and then continue baking until the center is done.

Whole Wheat Bread (with Homemade Whole Wheat Flour)

Cool in the pan for about 5-10 minutes and then remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack until completely cooled. Or you can do what we do in my house and wait until it’s cooled just enough that you don’t burn yourself while slicing the bread so that you can eat it hot and fresh from the oven!

The easiest and best way to avoid sunken bread is to use a cooking thermometer to check the inside of the loaf. Fully cooked bread will register 200°F on a thermometer. My all-time favorite thermometer is the Thermapen. It’s super fast and incredibly durable. Another great cooking thermometer is the ThermoPop which is a more basic version that works just as well!

Don’t have buttermilk in your fridge? No problem! All you have to do to make buttermilk is add a little bit of lemon juice or white vinegar to regular milk. Any variety of milk will work but 2% or whole milk work the best. Just add 1 Tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar to each cup of milk and then let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the milk has thickened a little bit.
